Microsoft Tutup Kantor Skype di London
Kabar mengejutkan datang dari Microsoft. Perusahaan pengembang teknologi raksasa dunia tersebut dikabarkan menutup kantor Skype di London, Inggris.
Dilansir melalui financialtimes.com Senin (19/9) penutupan kantor tersebut akan mengancam sekitar 400 karyawan. Namun Microsoft memberikan suara, akan ada beberapa posisi engineer yang diberikan. Kemudian juga tersedia semacam konsultasi untuk menangani hal tersebut.
Meski demikian, langkah Microsoft menutup kantor Skype di London merupakan sebuah keputusan besar. Kantor SkypeLondon merupakan kunci dari sejarah eksistensi platform berupa video call conference tersebut. Skype London sudah mempertahankan keberadaan platform tersebut sekian lama.
Beberapa kabar juga menyebutkan, sebagian karyawan tidak kaget dengan keputusan Microsoft. Setelah Office 365 rilis, keberadaan Skype memang tidak berdiri secara mandiri. Platform tersebut sudah terintegrasi di dalam Office 365 dengan beberapa fitur pengenalan terbaru.
Meski tutup, Skype akan tetap melakukan koordinasi dengan beberspa kantor Redmond, Palo Alto, Vancouver, dan beberapa lokasi lainnya di Eropa. Seperti kita ketahui, Skypemerupakan platform chatting dengan video call pertama di dunia.
Namun perkembangannya justru menjadi inisiator bagi sebagian aplikasi chat. Whatsapp messenger, facebook, dan beberapa aplikasi lainnya menyusul dengan fitur serupa. Keberadaan Skype mulai goyang ketika platform bisnis seperti Slack memiliki fitur serupa.
